Dominique Ansel Bakery, Tokyo

It was love at first bite, when I visited Dominique Ansel Bakery (DAB), Japan a few months back for the first time.

The inventor of Cronut – a croissant-doughnut pastry hybrid, and the winner of “Time Out New York’s Best New Bakery” award in 2012, Dominique Ansel made his international debut in Tokyo.

Having seen several viral INSIDER videos of Ansel’s artistic culinary creations, I was delighted to see Dominique Ansel Bakery opening in the heart of Tokyo.

The bakery offers an extensive array of artisanal desserts, from freshly baked sweets to frozen s’mores, cookie shots, Dominique Kougin Amann (DKA), cronuts (a new flavor that is introduced every month) and much more.

Here are some of which I’ve tried at DAB Japan and am completely smitten over – which makes me want to keep going back!

Cookie Shot

Soft and moist warm chocolate chip cookie (in the shape of a shot glass) served with cold-infused vanilla milk. This one’s my go-to at DAB!

Frozen S’Mores

Honey marshmallow enrobed in a layer of crunchy chocolate feuilletine flakes and Tahitian vanilla ice cream on the inside. Fun fact, they blow torch your Frozen S’more right in front of you!

Black Truffle Caramel Frozen S’Mores

In love with all things truffle! This one’s a luxe update to the classic Frozen S’mores. Honey marshmallow, centered with homemade salted caramel ice cream and black truffle, covered with chocolate wafer crisps and finished with a gold leaf.

Blossoming Hot Chocolate

This one’s created a lot of buzz last winter when Ansel brought a twist to the wonted hot chocolate. A thin marshmallow, shaped like a flower. When placed in a cup of hot chocolate, the marshmallow expands and blossoms. Such a simple yet beautiful touch – not to mention the richness of the  chocolate is divine. The bloom happens literally before your eyes, so make sure you’re watching!

What-a-Melon Soft Serve

DAB celebrates its second year in Japan by launching this dreamy watermelon soft-serve. This a delicious concoction of a fresh juicy slice of watermelon filled with homemade watermelon soft-serve, with chocolate-shaped like seeds and sea salt.

FYI, some items mentioned are seasonal and may not be available currently.
